Tell us About The History of the Nigerian Defence Academy

The Nigerian Defence Academy popularly referred to as the NDA was established in 1964, precisely on February 5, 1964. At the time there was a need to begin training of individuals who will serve as officers in the Nigerian Army to defend the country. This need birthed the Nigerian Defense Academy.

Prior Nigeria’s independence in 1960 the body was known as Royal Military Forces Training College (RMFTC). After independence the name was changed to Nigerian Military Training College. The role of the training college was defined as equipping cadets with knowledge, skill and values through training. This is necessary to make the cadets fit to become part of the Nigerian Army through academic and character development.
