Due to high demand of admission into federal universities in Nigeria, most state of the federation decided to create state universities that will help ease the admission seeking processes. There are more than 40 state universities in Nigeria, which are accredited by NUC.
Before I go ahead to provide the list of state universities in Nigeria and addresses in this post, I’ll like to make one point clear. Most people think that state universities in Nigeria are inferior to federal and private universities. But I am using this post to tell you that it is a lie.
State universities in Nigeria are regulated and accredited by NUC, which is the same body that regulates the federal universities. The only complain about state universities in Nigeria that holds water is that they are usually expensive when compared to federal universities.
State universities are funded by state government; as such they have no financial muscle to run the universities like the federal government. That is why parents need to pay higher school fees in the state universities.
Also, non-indigenes pay more for reasons, which I cannot tell. So, if you’re considering applying for state university as a non-indigene be ready to pay higher than the indigenes.
State universities are generally cheaper than private universities but slightly more expensive than Federal universities. They are mostly lauded for their infrastructure and reliability. Most of the State Universities offer a variety of courses including medicine, accountancy, economics, arts, etc.
